The Vision
Building a new library to genuinely serve the entire community. Whether it’s a place to read, study, meet, or simply relax, the Cold Spring Library will be a modern, welcoming space—a valuable part of everyday life for today’s families and generations to come.
Why Now?
Since 1984, the Cold Spring Library has remained un-changed as the community has grown around it. It is significantly undersized - at only 1,768 sq ft. - and cur-rently lacks dedicated study rooms, sufficient space for technology, and flexibility for group programs. Despite these limitations, over 61,000 items are circulated annually, showing strong demand for services.
With limited space, outdated infrastructure, and growing demand, the current building can no longer meet the needs of our community. Great River Regional Library system has identified Cold Spring as a library in urgent need of facility improvements due to space, programming, and accessibility concerns. A new 6,000 sq ft library will meet the needs of current residents and support Cold Spring’s future.
Now is the time to invest in a modern, accessible, and welcoming library that will serve generations to come.
More Than Books
Libraries Strengthen Communities
Libraries are safe, welcoming spaces for everyone. They provide meeting rooms, events, and programs that foster connection, civic engagement, and community pride. In Cold Spring, our library is a trusted partner in everything from school programming to local author talks and cultural events.
Local Education Support
Supporting local youth and families through engaging educational and social opportunities is at the heart of the library’s mission. From youth reading programs that build literacy and a love of books to welcoming gatherings, Pokémon Clubs, and other community-based activities, it creates spaces where kids can learn, connect, and grow.
Building What Comes Next
Together, these programs and services show that the Cold Spring Library is more than just a building—it’s an essential part of our community’s daily life. But our current space can no longer keep up with the growing needs of those we serve.
A new library will allow us to expand programs, improve access to technology, and create welcoming spaces for connection, learning, and belonging. With your support, we can build a library that truly meets our community—today and for generations to come.
Bridging the Tech Gap
Access to technology is no longer a luxury—it’s a necessity. The library serves as a vital digital hub, offering free internet, computers, and technology support to community members of all ages. From students completing homework to adults applying for jobs or accessing healthcare services, the library provides critical tools that many rely on every day.
Connection & Community
Supporting adults in our community through welcoming spaces and meaningful social opportunities is an important part of the library’s role. From casual conversations and social gatherings to programs designed with seniors in mind, it creates spaces where individuals can connect, engage, and feel a sense of belonging.
